MOTCRANE supplied one 50/20 ton double girder overhead crane and three 5 ton European-style single-girder overhead cranes for a customer’s new factory in Turkey.
All four cranes have a span of 14.5 m and meet duty class A5. The double-girder crane is used for large steel structure handling, while the three single-girder cranes support daily assembly work.
The customer’s new factory includes two operating areas: a finished-goods shipping workshop and a daily assembly workshop. Both areas have a crane span of 14.5 m and a runway length of 150 m. The power supply is 400 V, 50 Hz, three-phase, and all four cranes are required to meet duty class A5.
One 50/20-ton double-girder overhead crane will be installed in the finished-goods shipping workshop. It will mainly be used for lifting, moving, and loading large steel structural components and has a lifting height of 10 m.
Three 5-ton European-style single-girder overhead cranes will be installed in the assembly workshop for daily assembly and material handling. Their lifting height is 6 m. The compact single-girder design is suitable for the routine lifting tasks in this area and is relatively straightforward to maintain.
The customer requested wireless remote control for all four cranes, together with one additional spare remote control. Schneider Electric was specified for the variable-frequency drives and electrical components, while SEW gearmotors were specified for the crane travel drives.
The configuration and pricing of the three 5-ton European-style single-girder overhead cranes met the customer’s expectations, so no major revision was required. The main adjustment concerned the hoisting mechanism of the 50/20-ton double-girder overhead crane.
During the initial quotation stage, MOTCRANE selected an open winch trolley because the 50/20-ton lifting capacity is relatively high, and this is our usual configuration for large-capacity overhead cranes. Open winch trolleys are suitable for cranes with higher duty requirements, frequent operation, or more demanding working conditions, but they also involve greater structural complexity, manufacturing cost, and maintenance requirements.
After receiving the quotation, the customer found that the price of the double-girder crane was considerably higher than their budget. Further discussion confirmed that the crane would mainly be used for finished-product shipping rather than continuous production. Its actual operating frequency would be relatively low, and duty class A5 would be sufficient.
Based on these operating conditions, MOTCRANE replaced the original open winch trolley with a double-girder wire rope hoist trolley. The revised solution still meets the required lifting capacity, lifting height, and duty class while reducing the equipment purchase cost.
Since both the double-girder crane and the three single-girder cranes use wire rope hoists, the customer will also have more consistent operator training, maintenance procedures, and spare parts management. They will not need to maintain two hoisting systems with significantly different structures.
The scope of supply for this project includes:
The spare parts package was prepared to support routine maintenance and the replacement of wear parts after the new factory begins production.
The quotation separately listed the cost of sending an engineer to the site for installation guidance, commissioning assistance, load testing, and operator training.
Including the cranes, runway rails, power supply system, and spare parts within one supply package helps reduce coordination issues between different suppliers and allows the customer to plan the installation and commissioning of the new factory more efficiently.

Unless a project involves special operating conditions or non-standard customization, a European-style double-girder wire rope hoist trolley uses a standardized, modular design in which the drum, motor, gearbox, brake, and safety devices are integrated into a compact unit. It requires less trolley steelwork and fewer custom components than an open winch trolley, so its manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning costs are normally lower.
If you are selecting a double-girder or single-girder overhead crane, please provide MOTCRANE with the lifting capacity, span, lifting height, duty class, operating frequency, workshop length, and available installation height. You can request an overhead crane quotation based on your actual operating conditions.
